Superior RR: Born in Czechia, Inspired by France
A Beauty Ready to Claim the Spotlight – And Rightfully So!
The Superior RR was born out of a wish sent from France – the country that gave the world the most prestigious cycling race of all: the Tour de France. And now, this Czech-made road bike will become an integral part of the biggest amateur cycling event in the country: L’Etape Czech Republic by Tour de France.
“The Superior RR is built for those who love speed. It’s designed for sports enthusiasts craving an aggressive, fast ride – yet it’s not exclusively a racing bike. Every cyclist toying with the idea of riding L’Etape will undoubtedly find satisfaction in its saddle,” says Petr Lavička, Head of Development at Superior.
From Gravel Experts to Road Trailblazers
The Czech company Superior, known for its precise design, cutting-edge technology, and passion for cycling, has in recent years focused on a wide range of bikes and e-bikes – particularly in the gravel segment.
“We were one of the first companies to enter the market with a gravel bike. We’ve been producing them for eight years now. And I think it’s a fantastic category. Gravel bikes are so versatile – you can ride them on forest paths, gravel roads, and smooth tarmac. That’s why so many people enjoy them,” reflects Petr Lavička.
He also notes that Superior integrates hidden mounting points on its gravel bikes for accessories like mudguards, allowing easy conversion into a winter bike.
Why Go Road?
So why did Superior decide to make a pure road bike?
“As we sold more gravel bikes, we kept getting more questions about a dedicated road model. Many customers were switching from road bikes to gravel and missed the pure road feeling. We did offer the Gran Fondo, but it shared the same frame platform as our gravel bikes, with wide tire clearance. If you need to fit a 45mm tire, you have to adjust the fork accordingly. But when you mount narrow road tires on such frames, there’s too much space around them – and die-hard road cyclists tended to go for competing brands,” Lavička explains.
Riding Qualities Set It Apart
“For those who love dynamics and speed, we created the Superior RR – a road bike that delivers the thrill of fast, aggressive riding and the wind-whistling sensation so typical of road cycling,” Lavička adds.
The strongest demand for a road bike came from France – home of the Tour de France. That market’s influence was undeniable.
“We have a solid position in France, and as gravel grows, so does the popularity of road cycling. These two worlds often blend. So when more and more French customers began asking for a dynamic, speed-focused bike, we started seriously considering the road segment,” he says.
Research in other European countries confirmed that customers would welcome a road model from the Czech brand far beyond France, and so Superior got to work.
“Normally, bringing a new bike to market takes about two years. But we already had materials and ideas for a road bike concept in the drawer, which made things easier,” Lavička explains.
From Concept to Reality in 12 Months
The entire company – from R&D to purchasing and quality control – pulled together to make the seemingly impossible happen. In just twelve months, they turned a vision into reality.
The result is the new Superior RR, proudly launched by the brand from Kopřivnice.
“Compared to gravel bikes, this model is more stable, quicker to handle – it’s meant for performance riding. It’s not a race-only machine, but it’s built for passionate road cyclists. You’ll enjoy speed and a dynamic ride,” says Lavička.
“We aimed for a lightweight road bike and actually designed it based on feedback from the French cycling community. Their insights now guarantee new customers a unique experience,” he assures.
